Time and Dirt
(First Day -- Previous Day -- Day 26 -- Next Day)
Day 26
Heliopause Colony on Planet Vertumna, Medbay
“Solane! You know what I saw still growing today? Tagetes, those bright red and yellow flowers with that sometimes huge amount of tongue- or funnel-shaped petals on them! I was so happy to see them still live and bloom that I brought some to you. Let me put them next to the pots you already have here, the pelargonium and the wormhole petunias...
Oh, they really need to be watered, I thought Dr. Instance might do this, since she makes sure all the other plants in the medbay stay alive but I guess she didn’t care for these because they aren’t part of her scientific experiments... ugh. Let me see if I can still help them, I don’t want you to be here all alone again when I’m not with you.
Especially since you probably notice more then I might realize! Maybe you already sometimes wake up and manage to take a look around when I’m not here before falling asleep again? I ... don’t know if that’s possible but maybe it is? In any case, you deserve to be resting in a nice space that is as cozy as I can make it. And now that I can be sure it’s helping you get better I have all the motivation I could ever need to do all of it, and everything else.
Even the council meeting wasn’t as horrible today as I had feared, I felt an inner strength I hadn’t felt in weeks, if not longer.
There, now they are watered, not underwatered and not overwatered. I see so many flowers in the living quarters rotting due to overwatering, especially the succulent ones... It’s really sad, you know? When people don’t look after the plants placed under their care, when they don’t care at all. Maybe it’s because they can’t scream in pain, but... would that make a difference? We humans seem to not even care that much for each other in this world, it seems. Even if I do try to...
Should I close the curtains? The suns are both shining so brightly into the room right now. Ah, if you could just look at those beautiful sunsets... so many days in Wet it’s just obscured by clouds and you can’t see it at all. Soon the suns will turn the shade of red that your eyes are, too.
I can’t wait to see it more often in your face as well.
...
I’m sorry, Solane, there’s something I want to say, but I can’t find the words for it... I don’t know, it’s like something got ahold of them. But don’t worry, it’ll be fine. Maybe I could ask Tiki for advice. Dr. Instance no longer lets me bring it here because it had gotten dirt over some devices one time... and I can’t risk it being found in the greenhouses, so it’s now in a secret home I made for it in a corner of the garden. I miss having it around me all the time so much.
I’ll be back tomorrow and tell you if I have gotten any wiser, okay? I’ll promise I’ll be able to be longer here then...
